This time of year, I always feel like I’m being left out of a major American cultural tradition — the October worship of the holy pumpkin.
Pumpkin spice lattes! Pumpkin muffins! Pumpkin cookies! Pumpkin peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! It’s almost Halloween so let’s eat pumpkin in everything! Let’s make it the flavor of the week — heck, how about the flavor of the quarter! People love pumpkin so let’s just put it everywhere.
But … I don’t like pumpkin. Sorryyyy, world!! Hopefully I don’t get my American citizenship revoked because of this. Oh well.
I just have this crazy dream, though, that someday the world will feel as excited about my favorite flavor — Oreos — as they do about pumpkins.
I can see it now. It’s February 1, which means it’s the beginning of OREO SEASON!!! Oreo-flavored ice cream! Oreo cupcakes! Oreo milkshakes! Oreo spice lattes!
Ooh, wow, the store released their Oreo products a few days early, this is so exciting, I love Oreo season!!
Maybe we’ll even live in a world where Oreos serve as seasonal decorations like pumpkins do. I get the appeal of a pumpkin — anything that’s both a food and a theme decor is pretty awesome.
Anyone know how I can get in touch with the people who make these trend decisions??
